Have you ever received a letter in French and not fully understood what it said? Maybe from your doctor, your solicitor or from your child's teacher? Do you ever feel impelled to write a letter to complain about a service or a product that you are not happy with but never do as you don't feel confident writing in French?
As an independent translator I will convert your text into either English or French - retaining all the original meaning - while constructing a fluent and readable transcript of your original document. The sign of a good translator is to read a translated text and to not even realise it was ever translated.
I offer a personal service and will keep you up to date with the progress of your piece as required. I will absolutely respect your privacy and all information transmitted to me will be kept in the strictest confidence. As I work independently and from home, I do not have the overhead costs that larger translation houses may have; this means that you will receive a personal, friendly and tailored service at a competitive price. I am happy to translate the little things that crop up in everyday daily life as well as longer more detailed documents.
Simply send me an email with a copy of the text for translation attached and I will reply with your quote.

Tariffs
Tariffs for translations start at 0,10€ per word.
The tariff per word can depend on many factors including the following:-
I am not selling a product and pricing linguistic work is not an exact science. Prices can vary widely and I always try to be fair and transparent when preparing a quote. A legal document or one using technical vocabulary takes more time to complete than a café menu for example.
I count the number of words using Microsoft Word or by manual estimation in a non-digital document. I am happy to translate small texts alongside longer documents. I don't have a 'minimum charge' for a translation. If a translation only takes half an hour to complete, I will only invoice for that half an hour.
Please feel free to email your document to [email protected] for a free no obligation quotation.
I will reply with a quote and after which you can decide whether to proceed or not.

Interpreting
An interpreter is a person who provides an oral translation from one language to another.
I prefer to quote job by job for interpreting as the work can vary so widely.
The quote may depend on several criteria such as the distance I travel, the duration of the assignment and the complexity of the language.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch here if you require any further information.

Who am I?
I am a British-born graduate of French and I am lucky enough to now live in the beautiful countryside in the Limousin region of France.
We have been renovating our house here since 2007. I have also had the pleasure of being at home with our daughter for her first few years. Our little princess is now very happily installed in the local école maternelle and so here I find myself having launched my business in France!
Ever since I was very little I have always been interested in language and how people communicate. One of my earliest memories is listening to my German auntie speaking English and wanting to understand why she sounded so different to the other people around me. Then, once I had started to study first French, then German and Latin at school, I was well and truly hooked. I went on to study French, German, Latin, Bengali, Urdu and Spanish at different points in my adult life and I am about to embark on a taster course in Mandarin Chinese...
I studied languages, literature and linguistics at University both in the UK and here in France. Studying at a French University and obtaining a French qualification obviously boosted my written and oral language skills, my cultural awareness and general knowledge of this wonderful country and I feel very fortunate to have had the experience. I also made several life-long friends during my time as a French student.
During the three years I spent studying in France in my twenties, I boosted my income by teaching both English and French privately and translating for local businesses wishing to attract a larger Anglophone clientele. I was also lucky enough to find employment as a jeune fille au pair with two fantastic French families; an experience which also inevitably enormously improved my level of cultural, oral and general French knowledge.
The language, the literature and the linguistics of different cultures have always fascinated me. You will often find me browsing a dictionary in my spare time or scouring linguistic chat forums for interesting threads. Yes, linguistic chat forums do exist and are very popular!
Now I am back living in my beloved country and ready for the next chapter.
Vive la France!
Angi Hammond
I also offer French lessons in and around the 23800 Dun le Palestel area.
